Stylist Picks: How to wear Leather over a Cocktail Dress

This week we paired an elegant cocktail dress with a sleek leather jacket. This can only mean one thing. Spring has sprung, but cooler temps are lingering. If you’re hibernating until summer is here, we don’t blame you. But if you’re ready to venture out now, try pairing some lighter delicates with a tougher outer layer.

Read on to see how we mixed a pink chic dress with an edgy moto jacket like the look below.

Feminine and Tough

The Janice Leather Jacket paired with the pink Mindy Short Sleeved Dress offer up a combo look that is delicate and feminine, but also a little tough. The history of the leather jacket dates back to the first world war when it was worn by fighter pilots. It wasn’t until nearly the 60’s when women really started donning the look, but we’re so glad they did.

While the jacket is available only in the Beverly Hills flagship store, the dress can be found online in both pink and black and is a modern take on the classic sheath cocktail dress. A short-sleeved silhouette with rich, medium weight silk fabric that boasts princess seams and a flounced skirt. The outer shell is made of polyester and mulberry silk, while the lining is mostly silk with some spandex.

Get the Look

The stylists at our Beverly Hills flagship store have styled it on blogger and model Oana Diaconu (@odbeautyworld) with a black leather jacket–she supplied her own shoes and accessories in black as well (jump over to Oana’s blog ODbeauty for more of her stylings). If you like the contrast, try the Celine Pointed To Heel in black (pictured left below). But if you were more excited about a monochromatic look, you could pair this dress with the nude Celine (right below) the Emily Pumps in sand (middle below).

As you transition into the warmer months, this dress will stand on its own (as pictured below). It pairs nicely with a bold printed scarf or a statement necklace and a delicate espadrille.

To mimic Oana’s look, keep makeup simple and natural with our Dusty Rose Lip Luster in Rose Honey (pictured below).

Enhance your femininity with a treat just for you under this dress. Try the nude Mackenzie T-Shirt Bra (pictured left) and Lily High-Rise Brief in coffee (pictured right).

After you’ve spent the day in this gorgeous frock, don’t allow yourself to fall into a slumpy old T-shirt and sweatpants indulge yourself by lounging in the Celeste Wrap Robe, camisole and shorts in ivory.

Pink gives off an incredibly feminine vibe, but not all women in pink have to be delicate and dainty. Tell us how you put on a little armour with your style each day in the comments below.
